So I’ve been bored lately and decided too research homebrewing dnp for funnies.

I’m confused on if 98% sulfuric acid is really necessary, so I’m assuming you’re going too use standard aromatic nitration( like nitrating benzene) by mixing in concentrated sulfuric acid with concentrated nitric due too the acid being able to protonate the nitric acid which deals with the benzene ring which I’m assuming it’s the base for making dnp, I’ve been reading about phenol and ethanol and phenol seems to have a benzene ring bounded too a hydroxyl group. Also it seems too have pairs of electrons that active the ring? Since phenol seems to really active it doesn’t need a supercharge too make the ring react (might be wrong about that) so they seem to be the bases of dnp yet I’m confused which one is better if any or can they get the same end result?

Tldr: Is using a combination of nitric acid and sulfuric acid better, worst, or even with using phenol and ethanol as a base?

( if I have a lot of my info wrong this was due too impulsive researching hahah😅)

Sorry if this is hard to read I’m just writing what’s on my mind
